The Roots Picnic, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia PA
Songs that Shook is a live mural project I created at the 2019 Roots Picnic, born from the energy of five iconic hip hop songs: The Bridge, Ladies First, Rock Box, Alright, and Jesus Walks. Given just the songs as inspiration—with no direct images of the artists—I spent weeks designing a mural that captures the vibrant spirit and cultural impact of these tracks. On the day of the picnic, I painted the mural live, joined by a talented group of assistants and over 150 passionate participants from the crowd. The result is a dynamic, abstract celebration of rhythm, resilience, and the transformative power of music, turning the event into a collaborative fusion of art and hip hop culture.
